The Circuit Breaker Tester under Wuhan UHV can help many power workers conduct various power tests more conveniently.
Core Principle: Safety First! Always turn off the MAIN circuit breaker before starting!
Simple Testing Steps:
1. Power Off & Prepare:
Turn off the MAIN circuit breaker at the electrical panel to cut all power.
Wear insulated gloves and safety glasses.
Identify the specific breaker you want to test.
2.Visual Inspection:
Check if the handle is in the middle (tripped position) or if a trip indicator is showing.
Look for any damage like burns, cracks, or melting on the breaker casing. Replace immediately if damaged!
3.Reset Test (Checks Basic Function):
Disconnect Loads: Unplug or turn off all appliances/devices on that circuit (especially high-power ones).
Reset Firmly: Push the handle firmly to the full "OFF" position (you should hear/feel a "click"). Then push it firmly to the "ON" position.
Observe Result:
Stays ON: Basic function is okay. Reconnect loads one by one to check for overloads.
Trips Immediately Again: Likely a severe short circuit in the wiring or a faulty breaker. Call a qualified electrician!
Won't Reset (won't stay ON): Breaker is internally faulty, needs replacement.
Trips Later: Could be overload (too many devices) or an intermittent fault (like a ground fault). Check loads or call an electrician.
4.Test Button (For GFCI/AFCI Breakers ONLY):
Press the "TEST" button.
Should Trip Instantly: Protection is working. Press "RESET" to restore power.
Does NOT Trip: Protection is FAILED! Replace the breaker immediately!
Key Points:
Turning off the MAIN breaker is MANDATORY! Use a voltage tester to confirm power is off after switching.
ALWAYS disconnect loads before resetting! Prevents hazards and misdiagnosis.
For routine checks: Focus on visual inspection, reset test, and monthly "TEST" button press for GFCI/AFCI breakers.
If it won't reset, trips instantly, or is damaged: Replace it (with an identical type/spec breaker) or call an electrician immediately.
Professional testing (accuracy of overload protection, interrupting capacity, etc.) MUST be done by a licensed electrician using specialized equipment.
In short: Turn off main power → Check for damage → Disconnect loads → Reset firmly → See what happens → (For safety breakers) Press TEST button. If abnormal, replace or call an electrician.
