Core Principle: Gas Chromatography (GC)
Its core technology is gas chromatography (GC). The basic workflow is as follows:
1.Sampling: Extract an oil sample from the equipment, such as a transformer.
2.Degassing: Use a special device (like the oscillating degassing method) to completely extract the gases dissolved in the oil.
3.Injection: Introduce the extracted mixture of gases into the instrument's injection port.
4.Separation:
A carrier gas (such as high-purity nitrogen or hydrogen) acts as a "transport vehicle," carrying the mixed gas into a long column coated internally with a special material-the chromatographic column.
Because the different components in the gas mixture (e.g., H₂, CH₄, C₂H₄, C₂H₆, C₂H₂, CO, CO₂) have varying affinities (adsorption/solubility) for the column's coating material, they move through the column at different speeds while being carried by the "transport vehicle."
After traveling through the length of the chromatographic column, the originally mixed gases are separated into distinct "gas bands," which exit the column in sequence.
5.Detection: The exiting "gas bands" enter a detector (most commonly a Hydrogen Flame Ionization Detector (FID) and a Thermal Conductivity Detector (TCD)). The detector converts the gas concentration signals into electrical signals.
6.Data Analysis: A computer system receives the electrical signals and generates a chromatogram (a series of peaks). Each peak represents a specific gas, and the height or area of the peak indicates the concentration of that gas. By comparing it to standard samples, the precise concentration of each gas can be calculated.
