Product Introduction
The Sweep Frequency Response Analyzer is based on the measurement of the characteristic parameters of the internal winding of the transformer, and uses the internal fault frequency response analysis method currently being developed in developed countries to accurately determine the internal faults of the transformer.
After the design and manufacturing of the transformer are completed, the line coils and internal structure are determined. Therefore, for multi winding transformer line coils, if the voltage level is the same and the winding method is the same, the corresponding parameters (Ci, Li) of each line coil should be determined. Therefore, the frequency domain characteristic response of each line coil has been determined accordingly, and the frequency spectra of the corresponding three-phase line coils are comparable to a certain extent.
When a turn to turn short circuit occurs during the testing process or a collision occurs during transportation, the distribution parameters of the transformer winding will change, resulting in relative displacement of the line coil, as well as deformation of the line coil caused by electromagnetic tension under short circuit and fault states during operation. Then, Sweep Frequency Response Analyzer will affect and alter the original frequency domain characteristics of the transformer, namely the amplitude changes of the frequency response and the harmonic frequency offset. The transformer winding tester developed based on response analysis method is a new type of non-destructive testing equipment for internal faults of transformers. Suitable for internal structural fault detection of 63kV~500kV power transformers.

The acquisition and control of the transformer winding deformation tester (sweep frequency response analyzer) adopts a high-speed and highly integrated microprocessor.
Laptop USB interface with instrument communication.
There is no Bluetooth interface between the laptop and the instrument.
The hardware motion adopts DDS dedicated digital high-speed sweep technology (USA). Through testing, it is possible to accurately diagnose faults such as winding deformation, protrusion, offset, tilt, inter turn short circuit deformation, and phase to phase short circuit.
High resolution dB measurement, dual channel 16 bit A/D.
The signal output amplitude can be adjusted to a maximum peak value of 10V through software.
Electronic document (Word) of computer-generated results.
Select precise and highly stable components, repeat the test on the same phase, and measure a repetition rate of over 99.5%.
Finished circuit board, with special surface treatment to prevent water and harmful gas pollution.
The transformer winding deformation tester produced by our company has the functions of linear sweep frequency measurement and segmented sweep frequency measurement, and is compatible with the measurement modes of two technical schools in China currently.
The amplitude frequency characteristics comply with the technical specifications of the national amplitude frequency characteristic tester. The horizontal axis (frequency) has two types of linear index and logarithmic index, so the printed song curve can be linear or logarithmic index line, and users can choose according to their actual situation.
Product Advantages of sweep frequency response analyzer
1. Detects Hidden Damage - Identifies winding deformation, core movement, and loose clamping without opening the transformer tank.
2. Non-Invasive Testing - Performs all tests externally through bushings – no oil draining or tank entry required.
3. High Sensitivity - Detects mechanical shifts as small as 1-2mm, far more sensitive than traditional impedance tests.
4. Unique Fingerprint Comparison - Compares current response to baseline data, making even small deviations clearly visible.
5. Post-Fault Assessment - Quickly confirms internal damage after short-circuits or lightning strikes for repair-or-replace decisions.
6. Prevents Unplanned Outages - Catches problems early during routine maintenance, avoiding catastrophic failures.
7. Portable & Fast - Weighs only 10kg and completes a sweep in 2-10 minutes for easy field use.
Application of Sweep Frequency Response Analyzer:
1. Power generation, transmission, and distribution
Power plant: Evaluate the mechanical stability of the generator step-up transformer (GSU) and detect insulation displacement caused by thermal expansion.
Substation: Ensure that power transformers maintain structural integrity after fault currents.
Distribution Transformer: Verify the structural stability of pole and pad transformers.
2. Transformer manufacturing and factory testing
Quality control: Conduct routine and type tests before shipment to ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
Post transportation inspection: Confirm that the transformer has not undergone mechanical deformation during transportation.
3. Electrical maintenance and fault diagnosis
Predictive maintenance is used to assist utility companies in arranging maintenance and extending equipment lifespan.
Post fault investigation to determine whether the transformer can continue to operate or need maintenance after short circuit.
4. Renewable energy transformers (wind, solar, hydro)
Wind farm transformer: detects winding displacement caused by vibration and mechanical stress.
Solar power station transformer: Ensure the integrity of the inverter transformer under fluctuating loads.
Hydroelectric Transformer: Evaluate the movement of iron cores and insulation degradation in step-up transformers.

Work Principle
The Sweep Frequency Response Analyzer test works by injecting a low-voltage sine wave signal across a wide frequency range (typically 20 Hz to 2 MHz or higher) into a transformer winding and measuring the output response. By analyzing the frequency response curve, the SFRA test detects mechanical deformations, winding displacements, core movements, and other internal faults in transformers.
Common Faults of sweep frequency response analyzer
1.Winding Deformation: Due to short circuits, transportation stress, or aging.
2.Core Movement or Loosening: Caused by thermal cycling or mechanical impact.
3.Clamping Pressure Loss: Detects reduced pressure in transformer cores.
4.Inter-Turn Short Circuits: Identifies insulation faults between winding turns.
5.Broken or Loose Windings: Determines if windings have shifted or detached.
6.Partial Discharge and Insulation Degradation: Monitors insulation health.
7.Tap Changer Defects: Checks mechanical faults in on-load tap changers (OLTCs).

FAQ
Q: What is a Sweep Frequency Response Analyzer (SFRA) used for?
A: It is used to detect mechanical damage inside power transformers, including winding deformation, core movement, displaced windings, shorted turns, loose clamping, and bent leads – all without opening the transformer tank.
Q: Why is SFRA testing important for transformer maintenance?
A: Transformer windings can shift or deform due to through-fault currents, lightning strikes, shipping damage, or aging. SFRA is the most sensitive method to detect these mechanical issues before they lead to catastrophic failure, making it essential for commissioning, post-fault assessment, and aging transformer evaluation.
Q: Does the transformer need to be de-energized for SFRA testing?
A: Yes, the transformer must be completely de-energized, isolated from the power system, and safely grounded. All bushings, tap changers, and external connections must be accessible for test lead attachment, but no internal disassembly is required.
Q: Are you a factory or just a trading company?
A: Wuhan UHV Power Technology CO.,Ltd. is an industrial and trade enterprise, with its own factory, self-produced and self-sold.which means you get factory-direct pricing and direct technical support without any middlemen.
